The Media Tracker is a bespoke web application that allows O2 Ireland to track various media relating to mobile telecommunications in Ireland. The media tracked includes print advertising, news articles, television and radio advertising, and billboard advertising.
The system primarily consists of a dynamic interactive table, which can be filtered in various ways allowing the user to quickly and easily drill down through the data. This includes:
- Interactive table: The interactive table is core to the system and provides point and click filtering and sorting of the data along with expanding functions to allow the full detail of each record to be viewed. Techniques are employed to handle the different media types such as the controlled loading of video content and expanding thumbnail images.
- Advanced Filtering options: An easy to use point and click advanced filter that allows for multiple criteria to be selected across multiple categories. The advanced filter allows saving of filters for future recall. The interactive filters operated in tandem with this feature to provide further options to drill down through the data.
- Data Entry Platform: An integrated backend that allows the addition of new records, including the uploading of media files and images.
The application was developed with Adobe Coldfusion with an underlying MS SQL Server database. Its also utilises a range of J-Query functions to enhance the user interaction with the system, such as auto expanding thumbnails, controlled loading of audio and video content and various other user interactions.
